Missing Person / Relative or Friend Search

🚨 NO WAITING PERIOD TO REPORT A MISSING PERSON 🚨

I still hear too many families are being turned away by SAPS members who falsely claim that you must wait 24 hours to open a missing person case.

This is completely false and it’s against SAPS’s own directives.

📌 There is NO 24-hour or 48-hour rule.

📌 SAPS must open a missing person report immediately.

📌 You do not need a photo or to be in the same precinct.

You have the right to report immediately. Station commanders must ensure their members know the law. If you're refused, escalate it immediately.

A missing person investigation through a private investigator

Involves searching for a person who is missing, using a variety of investigative techniques and resources. This can include background checks, questioning witnesses, networking with other investigators, utilizing surveillance, and searching locations like hospitals and mortuaries.

Detailed Steps in a Missing Person Investigation:

• 1. Initial Consultation:
The investigator will gather information from the client about the missing person, their last known location, and any relevant details about their life and relationships.
• 2. Police Investigation:
The client is typically advised to file a missing person's report with the police first, as this creates an official record and may involve the police themselves conducting an investigation.
• 3. Background Checks and Witness Interviews:
The investigator may conduct background checks on the missing person and their associates, interview witnesses, and track down any potential suspects or sources of information.
• 4. Surveillance and Observation:
The investigator may conduct surveillance on areas where the missing person is believed to be or may be watching suspects to see where they go.
• 5. Searching for Clues:
The investigator may search through a variety of locations, including hospitals, mortuaries, and places where the missing person may have been.
• 6. Networking and Information Gathering:
Private investigators often have extensive networks of people they can use to gather information, including other investigators, informants, and individuals who may have relevant knowledge.
• 7. Utilizing Technology:
Modern private investigators may use technology like GPS tracking devices, social media investigation, and digital forensics to assist with the search.
• 8. Reporting and Documentation:
The investigator will keep detailed records of their findings, including interviews, surveillance reports, and evidence they have gathered.
